IFFF & Council News

Northern California Council Continues Fish in the Classroom

For over 25 years member clubs of Northern California Council Federation of Fly Fishers (NCCFFF) have been supporting teachers that hatch fish in their classrooms. In recognition of the long term commitment to advancing student knowledge of aquatic ecosystems, the Aquatic Resource Educators Association (AREA) conferred upon NCCFFF and its member clubs an award for outstanding achievement for their efforts in aquatic education in 2012.  Since that time the program has grown and is now in 1,150 classrooms reaching almost 30,000 students. What Our Members Want to Know

We receive common questions in the IFFF office. How many members does the Federation have? What is the difference between a Council and a Club? How do I become a Certified Casting Instructor? I understand you offer a special membership to US Disabled Veterans. Can you tell me more? Why should I be a member of the Federation?  Click here to find the answers.

Win Fame and Prizes in the Photo Contest

You still have plenty of time to get your camera out and take photos for submission in the IFFF International Fly Fishing Fair Photo Contest.  New this year is the Digital Historical Category.
Scans of historical photos related to any IFFF function are welcome.

The Digital Historical Category isn’t about quality photography but more a fun opportunity to display images of our history.  You don’t even have to be photographer or own a camera to enter!  Get those old photos together and share them with us in Bend.  Read more here>>

Conservation News

The One Bug Fly Fishing event was held this weekend in New York.  Two Federators took top honors, Dr. Glenn Erikson, IFFF Conservation Director, with teammate John (JC) Clark took First Place Team while Sam Decker, EWC President, took Top Guide.  The event helps support the work of Friends of the Upper Delaware River (FUDR) by spotlighting the river and local communities one weekend every year.  FUDR and its partners use the funds and the attention the event raises to better both habitat and quality of life in this very special place. In fact the fishery is consistently ranked as a top 10 trout water in North America, and for me is absolutely the best trout water of the Eastern US.

"Sweetgrass' IFFF 50th Anniversary Bamboo Rod cast a wonderful line for a light presentation in the earlier hours of the day, while the Thomas and Thomas 50th Anniversary Graphite Rod was able to blast thru the heavy gusts we experienced in the later afternoon.  These two rods really complimented each other, and will enhance any fly fisher's rod collection,” said Dr. Erikson, Conservation Director for the IFFF.  Click here to view and purchase one of the rods that benefits the Federation’s program.

This document can be found on the IFFF website by clicking here and then scrolling down to the Resources section where you will find the link to the Tips document.  Here you can also download the new CI test, order study materials, and watch a preparation video.

Did You Know?

A look back at the past 50 Years

The Federation of Flyfishermen, as we were originally known, changed our name to Federation of Fly Fishers in 1981.  It was changed in an effort to encourage a more diverse membership.  In 2013 it changed again to International Federation of Fly Fishers to recognize our international presence in 44 different countries.
