Did You Know?
A look back at the past 50 Years.

McKenzie Flyfishers led the effort to get the Federation established in 1964.  Twelve clubs became the original Charter clubs of the Federation and were recognized as such back in 1965.  Skip Hosfield in Oregon recently shared a document that was signed by Ed Strickland listing all the original Charter clubs of the Federation.  Do you want to know who they were?  Click here to find out.

Texas Clubs Assemble for Fly Fish Texas
North Texas clubs came together recently to provide casting demonstrations and lessons during the event.  Club volunteers assisted 69 different attendees with their fly fishing techniques at Fly Fish Texas in Athens. The clubs involved included the Fort Worth Fly Fishers, Dallas Flyfishers and the Red River Fly Fishers. Our rods are tipped toward Texas for their efforts!

Federation Supports Harding University Program
Harding University has taken advantage of the Federation's loaner equipment program in their Micro-enterprise Development program. The goal of the program is to introduce students to business ideas that utilize local resources and can potentially impact the local community for good. The classes have a fly tying/fly fishing component and the instructor is currently using loaner vices from the Federation.  Further developments to the program are scheduled this spring.  Learn more about the program>>

Florida Council Members Learn About Video Casting

Macauley Lord, IFFF Certified Master Casting Instructor and the person who put L. L. Bean fly fishing on the map, held a video casting clinic at Picnic Island Park on February 27 and 28.  There were 25 participants who learned how to use video recording and slow motion video analysis to their casting style.  Slow motion video analysis is used in many sports especially golf and tennis and has also been used to train Olympic bobsled teams.

Renewed Interest in Monofilament Recycling Project

The IFFF is seeing renewed interest in the Monofilament Recycling Project that was developed several years ago by the Federation. The Cowlitz Fly Anglers in Washington just placed some Monofilament Recovery tubes at the Cowlitz River Blue Creek Hatchery area and at the Kalama River across from the lower hatchery.  In addition, Fly Fishers for Conservation in Fresno is working on a project and so is the City of Almeda.  IFFF provided the stickers for the projects to promote the recovery of line. To get more information about building the tubes please visit the IFFF website.
