Lake Tahoe on the Rebound
Good news comes from Victor Babbitt at Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters. The Truckee River is again flowing, it has been a year without water leaving Lake Tahoe. This could be a short lived experience but we will take it while we have it! Believe it or not our Lake Tahoe area rivers
have survived and the fishing has been good this spring. Some thought the Truckee, Carson and Walker Rivers would be dead after four years of drought but the trout always seem to figure out a way to survive. It always amazes me how the fish tend to spread out and find their niche as the flows have come back and we are finding fish in spots that had little to no water last Fall.

Conservation
Conservation Committee Raises Funds for Small Grants
The Conservation Committee appeal will be mailed next week. The Federation awards small grants to councils, clubs and other partner organizations that are accomplishing the mission of restoration or conservation of fishery habitats. While the Federation's contribution normally doesn't fund an entire project, it can provide the catalysts for additional grants. A case in point is the Malibu Creek Crayfish Removal Project.
Debra Sharpton, Conservation VP in the Southwest Council shares her experience:
“I have been involved in several projects here in Los Angeles and I think the one with the most impact is our crayfish removal project in Malibu Creek. Sierra Pacific Fly Fishers and Wilderness Fly Fishers started the project and it now has close to a million dollars in funding. Thousands of volunteers have helped and the project continues to be popular with schools, civic organizations, corporate and general public. It gets people to our local streams, something not too many people see. It’s all for the aquatic world’s health and longevity of its rightful inhabitants - frogs, bugs and the endangered southern steelhead. Without IFFF initial funding this project may have never become a reality.”
Please help the Federation and its volunteers continue the work by Donating Today! Every dollar counts!
TU, Federation and Other Partners Garner Big Win on the Klamath
A recent victory on the Klamath River is the result of a long and determined effort by TU, the Federation and other partners. The agreement will remove 4 obsolete hydroelectric dams on the Klamath River starting in 2020. It is an example of major impactful conservation work IFFF does as an important and valued partner. In a joint statement TU, Northern California Council of the IFFF and other partners announced the significance of the agreement.
Lowell Ashbaugh, VP Conservation of the NCC, says, "Restoring the Klamath River and its legendary runs of steelhead and salmon is one of the best thing we can do for the future generations of anglers."
Fly Tying
Fly Tying Video Library Online
The Fly Tying Video Library continues to serve our members. In keeping with our mission to “provide educational resources for fly tiers”, the IFFF Fly Tying Group (FTG) launched a large online searchable fly tying video library and continues to add videos. The library can be found in the Tying section of the IFFF website under Educational Resources.
The FTG would like to recognize the sponsors of the directory, Mike Stewart,
Norvise and
Peak Fishing.
