Reach Mend

What does it mean...reach mend?

Reach mends are used to position the fly line in order to minimize drag on the fly. They are aerial mends, which means they are made after the casting stroke, but while the line, leader, and fly are still in the air. After the stop, simply reach the rod out to the side where you want to position the fly line.
