Saltwater Fly Fishing in SW Florida

Back Country Fly Fishers
leads us on a saltwater journey

Fly fishing in southwest Florida has unlimited opportunities. For purposes of this guide, “backcountry” refers to the estuaries, bays, back bays, creeks, and associated mangrove islands along the Gulf Coast of southwest Florida and includes The Ten Thousand Islands area of Everglades National Park.

Most of the saltwater fly fishing in southwest Florida is in the backcountry, but there are also fly fishing opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico and in the fresh water of local lakes and canals. Whether you are new to fly fishing or an experienced fly fisherman but new to saltwater, this guide will help get you started on the exciting adventure of saltwater fly fishing. The term “fisherman” is used generically in this document to include men, women, and children.

This guide is jammed-packed with information that you need to know if your are going to fish in southwest Florida, but it also has general information about saltwater fishing anywhere:

  • Equipment, including rods and reels
  • Flies & fly boxes
  • Saltwater fish species
  • Safety
  • Hazards you might face
  • and more!
