Academic career: Taught full time from 1969-2007 at Ohio University (20,000 students). Awarded six teaching awards: University Professor, Outstanding Graduate Professor; Honors Tutorial College Outstanding Tutor; Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society for Freshmen Teaching Award; College of Arts and Sciences Jeanette G. Grasselli Faculty Teaching Award in the Humanities; College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award. Author or editor of 21 books and chapbooks; director of 21 PhD dissertations.

+Grew up in Connecticut and Vermont; fly fisherman since 1956; have fly fished a month+  in  Montana every year since 1989
+Graduate of Western Rivers Guide School, Jackson, WY (1998)
+Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) Certified  Basic Casting Instructor (2000)
+Designed and taught the first ever “Literature of Fly Fishing” course at Ohio University (Spring Quarter, 2002)
+Enrolled in casting seminars at FFF national conclaves taught by Mel Krieger,  Joan Wulff, Lefty Kreh, Bob Jacklin, John Van Dalen, Macauley Lord (1999-2005)
+Co-taught (with Dennis Hess) an eight week fly fishing class for the Blennerhassett Chapter (Parkersburg, West Virginia) of Trout Unlimited (2001-2007)
+Member of American Museum of Fly Fishing, Theodore Gordon Flyfishers, Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, Henry’s Fork Foundation, Madison River Foundation,  Anglers' Club  of New York
+Life member, Trout Unlimited (2008--)
