Douglas  Hnatiuk

I have been tying flies for 21 years.

I have been teaching fly tying for 16 years.

I learned fly tying from a very accomplished fly tier/entomologist from Ontario, Canada who took me under his wing and taught me individually for 2 years beginning in April 1995. He then had me assist in teaching his classes for a further 3 years while he had me tying commercially for the local fly shop to increase my skills. I was also tutored by an accomplished fly tier/fisher from Switzerland who specializes in the art of old English fly patterns and Atlantic Salmon patterns. I have continued to tie with these two men for many years and for the local fly shop until it closed a few years ago and I also took over the fly tying classes 16 years ago when the Ontario fellow retired from teaching fly tying. I have since taught classes annually (Fall/Winter) and have recently began to develop a small group of former students who tie with me and assist in my teaching courses to be groomed as future fly tying instructors.

My teaching specialty is Wet Flies and Nymphs.

Students come to me through advertising in the local program guide sponsored by the municipality. I teach eight students at a time.
