Vaughn  Snook

I have been tying flies for 35 years.

I have been a Tying Instructor for 25 years.  My teaching specialty is: Trout and Smallmouth flies.

I have been a Demonstration Tier for 30 years.  My demonstration specialty is: Mostly trout… but small-mouth bass are also important where I live.

Started tying when I was 11 years old (now 47 years old). Taught hundreds of students both fly casting and fly tying in fly shops I worked at in Michigan. Demo fly tyer at assorted clinics, conclaves, etc. Tied commercially for awhile to get through college...Gates AuSable Lodge, Schmidt Outfitters, M. Chance Fly Fishing, etc. I have a Master's degree is Fisheries Science from Michigan State University. Now currently employed with Minnesota Dept Natural Resource as Assistant Fisheries Supervisor. Trout, small-mouth bass, large-mouth bass, panfish, and steelhead fly patterns. I live in southeast Minnesota...the final trout frontier!

I have demonstrated fly tying at: Because there is little FFF activity in this part of Minnesota I typically only demo at Gander Mtn with a group of fly tyers throughout the winter months.

Fly fishing organizations I belong to: FFF, FFF Life Member and CCI. Southeast MN does not have a FFF Chapter. Routinely meet with a group of fly tyers all winter in Rochester, MN every Saturday for fly tying.
