Casting Board of Governors Awards

Were you aware that the Casting Board of Governors (CBOG) of Fly Fishers International (FFI) has six different casting specific awards to present to worthy individuals each year? It’s only recently that we had the opportunity to specifically recognize individuals who have contributed to the success of our Certified Casting Instructors Program (CICP). That’s not to say that our members haven’t been recognized with other awards, but now we have some specific awards to be presented by the CBOG.

Nominations generally do not come from the CBOG.  The CBOG is very diverse and members come from all parts of the globe, but we don’t know everybody. The CBOG relies on FFI members to nominate worthy candidates using the criteria listed below.

To ensure optimal recognition of appropriate individuals, the nominating document must stand alone.  The sponsor, the person who submits the nomination, must document in the nomination multiple specific examples of how that individual or individuals fulfilled the criteria.  Individuals will be given awards based upon the facts in the nomination and not by just general familiarity of that individual with the CBOG or Awards Committee.  A nomination is usually more effective if multiple letters of support are obtained that document the breadth of the nominees contributions to the program.

The FFI is a volunteer organization and the success of the CICP is primarily due to the support and dedication of our members who believe in what we do. Sometimes all we can do is thank them for a job well done. Now we can give worthy individuals casting specific awards in appreciation for outstanding service.

CICP Award Nominations due on April 1 of the calendar year they are to be awarded.
(See award listings, procedures, nomination form, and other deadlines below)

Click here to understand the Nomination and Selection Process.  Multiple nominees may be selected for any award each year and no award must be awarded annually. With the exception of the Lifetime Achievement and Jay Gammel Awards the nominee must be a FFI member.

Below is a brief description of the six awards and the past recipients.  There is a hyperlink after each award description to the Criteria and Requirements for that award.

Floyd Franke Award For Contributions to the CICP

Floyd Franke advanced the mission of the CICP on several levels through his contributions as a Governor and later as the Chairperson of the CBOG.  Floyd had a vision of what the CICP should encompass and brought it to fruition. He proposed practical solutions to real problems and implemented those solutions.  He foresaw that high standards must be maintained and laid the foundation for the Code of Conduct to ensure this was the case.  He also established the Ethics Committee, the Two-Hand Casting Instructor program, Governor Membership terms, and opened CBOG Committees and CICP activities to participation by MCIs.  Floyd looked to people who got things done.  Neither name recognition nor celebrity status played a role.  He had a major role in making the CICP a respected and valued component of FFI worldwide that reflects on those individuals whose certifications it sanctioned. This award recognizes significant contributions to processes and organizational components of the CICP.

This award is to be given by the CBOG of the FFI CICP to honor an individual(s) who demonstrates these same traits and qualities while making significant contributions to advance the CICP.
